BACKGROUND: Previous studies suggest that dietary vitamin C is inversely associated with gastric cancer (GC), but most of them did not consider intake of fruit and vegetables. Thus, we aimed to evaluate this association within the Stomach cancer Pooling (StoP) Project, a consortium of epidemiological studies on GC. METHODS: Fourteen case-control studies were included in the analysis (5362 cases, 11,497 controls). We estimated odds ratios (ORs) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the association between dietary intake of vitamin C and GC, adjusted for relevant confounders and for intake of fruit and vegetables. The dose-response relationship was evaluated using mixed-effects logistic models with second-order fractional polynomials. RESULTS: Individuals in the highest quartile of dietary vitamin C intake had reduced odds of GC compared with those in the lowest quartile (OR: 0.64; 95% CI: 0.58, 0.72). Additional adjustment for fruit and vegetables intake led to an OR of 0.85 (95% CI: 0.73, 0.98). A significant inverse association was observed for noncardia GC, as well as for both intestinal and diffuse types of the disease. The results of the dose-response analysis showed decreasing ORs of GC up to 150-200 mg/day of vitamin C (OR: 0.54; 95% CI: 0.41, 0.71), whereas ORs for higher intakes were close to 1.0. CONCLUSIONS: The findings of our pooled study suggest that vitamin C is inversely associated with GC, with a potentially beneficial effect also for intakes above the currently recommended daily intake (90 mg for men and 75 mg for women).

The ubiquitin-proteasomal pathway regulates the functional expression of many membrane transporters in a variety of cellular systems. Nothing is currently known about the role of ubiquitin E3 ligase, neural precursor cell-expressed developmentally down-regulated gene 4 (Nedd4-1) and the proteasomal degradation pathway in regulating human vitamin C transporter-2 (hSVCT2) in neuronal cells. hSVCT2 mediates the uptake of ascorbic acid (AA) and is the predominantly expressed vitamin C transporter isoform in neuronal systems. Therefore, we addressed this knowledge gap in our study. Analysis of mRNA revealed markedly higher expression of Nedd4-1 in neuronal samples than that of Nedd4-2. Interestingly, Nedd4-1 expression in the hippocampus was higher in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and age-dependently increased in the J20 mouse model of AD. The interaction of Nedd4-1 and hSVCT2 was confirmed by coimmunoprecipitation and colocalization. While the coexpression of Nedd4-1 with hSVCT2 displayed a significant decrease in AA uptake, siRNA-mediated knockdown of Nedd4-1 expression up-regulated the AA uptake. Further, we mutated a classical Nedd4 protein interacting motif ("PPXY") within the hSVCT2 polypeptide and observed markedly decreased AA uptake due to the intracellular localization of the mutated hSVCT2. Also, we determined the role of the proteasomal degradation pathway in hSVCT2 functional expression in SH-SY5Y cells and the results indicated that the proteasomal inhibitor (MG132) significantly up-regulated the AA uptake and hSVCT2 protein expression level. Taken together, our findings show that the regulation of hSVCT2 functional expression is at least partly mediated by the Nedd4-1 dependent ubiquitination and proteasomal pathways.

Abstract Background Vitamin C (ascorbate) is a water-soluble antioxidant and an important cofactor for various biosynthetic and regulatory enzymes. Mice can synthesize vitamin C thanks to the key enzyme gulonolactone oxidase (Gulo) unlike humans. In the current investigation, we used Gulo −/− mice, which cannot synthesize their own ascorbate to determine the impact of this vitamin on both the transcriptomics and proteomics profiles in the whole liver. The study included Gulo −/− mouse groups treated with either sub-optimal or optimal ascorbate concentrations in drinking water. Liver tissues of females and males were collected at the age of four months and divided for transcriptomics and proteomics analysis. Immunoblotting, quantitative RT-PCR, and polysome profiling experiments were also conducted to complement our combined omics studies. Results Principal component analyses revealed distinctive differences in the mRNA and protein profiles as a function of sex between all the mouse cohorts. Despite such sexual dimorphism, Spearman analyses of transcriptomics data from females and males revealed correlations of hepatic ascorbate levels with transcripts encoding a wide array of biological processes involved in glucose and lipid metabolisms as well as in the acute-phase immune response. Moreover, integration of the proteomics data showed that ascorbate modulates the abundance of various enzymes involved in lipid, xenobiotic, organic acid, acetyl-CoA, and steroid metabolism mainly at the transcriptional level, especially in females. However, several proteins of the mitochondrial complex III significantly correlated with ascorbate concentrations in both males and females unlike their corresponding transcripts. Finally, poly(ribo)some profiling did not reveal significant enrichment difference for these mitochondrial complex III mRNAs between Gulo −/− mice treated with sub-optimal and optimal ascorbate levels. Conclusions Thus, the abundance of several subunits of the mitochondrial complex III are regulated by ascorbate at the post-transcriptional levels. Our extensive omics analyses provide a novel resource of altered gene expression patterns at the transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels under ascorbate deficiency.

Abstract L-Ascorbic acid, commonly known as vitamin C, has been used not only for disease prevention and in complementary and alternative medicine, but also for anti-aging purposes. However, the scientific evidence is not yet sufficient. Here, we review the physiological functions of vitamin C and its relationship with various pathological conditions, including our previous findings, and discuss the prospects of its application in healthy longevity. In summary, vitamin C levels are associated with lifespan in several animal models. Furthermore, clinical studies have shown that the blood vitamin C levels are lower in middle-aged and older adults than in younger adults. Lower blood vitamin C levels have also been observed in various pathological conditions such as chronic kidney disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in the elderly. These observations suggest the implications of vitamin C in age-related pathological mechanisms owing to its physiological functions.

Abstract Vitamin C is an important micronutrient for human. Association between vitamin C and trouble sleeping was less studied. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the possible link between vitamin C in serum and trouble sleeping. The cross-sectional data was derived from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES, 2017–2018). Trouble sleeping was measured by asking participants: “Have you ever told doctor had trouble sleeping”. Responses to this question was “yes” or “no”. vitamin C in serum was obtained by measuring the serum samples. We used multivariable binary logistic regressions to examine the possible link between vitamin C in serum and trouble sleeping, and then a subgroup analysis was performed. Moreover, the non-linear relationship between vitamin C in serum and trouble sleeping was further detected using a restricted cubic spline (RCS) model. A total of 3227 participants were included in the study. After adjusting all potential confounders, the results of multivariable logistic regression showed the significant negative association between vitamin C in serum and trouble sleeping(OR = 0.816; 95% CI:0.669 ~ 0.995). The significant inverse association was also found in female(OR = 0.713; 95% CI:0.546 ~ 0.931), age ≤ 65 years(OR = 0.773; 95% CI:0.600 ~ 0.996), and in participants with high cholesterol level(OR = 0.738; 95% CI:0.548 ~ 0.994). In addition, the RCS model demonstrated the significant non-linear relationship between vitamin C in serum and trouble sleeping (P value of nonlinear = 0.010). Our study demonstrates the significant negative association between vitamin C in serum and trouble sleeping.

In this case report, the symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment process of a ten-year-old male patient with cerebral palsy diagnosed with scurvy due to vitamin C deficiency are presented. A 10-year-old male patient with a diagnosis of cerebral palsy and epilepsy was admitted with complaints of pain, swelling, and inability to step on the right ankle and left knee for 3 weeks. Swelling and edema were present in the left knee and right ankle. There were petechial lesions and ecchymosis on the legs. In addition, gingival bleeding and hypertrophy were observed. Laboratory examinations revealed anemia and acute phase reactant elevation. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory therapy was initiated, but no regression was observed. Radiographs of the left knee and magnetic resonance imaging were performed, and dense lines were detected in the metaphyseal line. When the patient's dense lines finding, myalgia, petechiae, anemia that is unresponsive to iron treatment, gingival hypertrophy, and bleeding were evaluated, it was found to be compatible with scurvy disease. Despite the prevalence of easy access to food and healthy nutrition information, scurvy disease should be considered in patients with selectively fed autism spectrum disorder or neurodevelopmental retardation, as in our case.

Objective. The aim of the study was to determine Vitamin C content in some fruits and vegetables (FAV) including apple, banana, orange, pineapple, watermelon, carrot and cucumber, sold in the local markets in Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria as well as Vitamin C content in two-component and three-component homogenates FAV. The work was also designed to investigate the dietary exposure and health effects of excess vitamin C intake in adults and children. Material and methods. Vitamin C as total ascorbic acid (AA) after reduction of dehydroascorbic acid was analyzed using both titrimetric and spectrophotometric methods. The titrimetric method involved iodometric back-titration while the spectrophotometric method was done at an absorbance of 530 nm. The dietary exposure was evaluated as the total FAV intake multiplied by chemical concentration in the FAV whereas the health effect of excess vitamin C intake was conducted using the hazard quotient (HQ). Results. The results revealed that Vitamin C for single fruits ranged from 11.76 - 41.17 mg/L for spectroscopic method and 16.9 – 31.84 mg/L for titrimetric method. Fruit homogenates showed Vitamin C concentrations of 14.70 – 220.58 mg/L and 17.23 – 209.09 mg/L for two-components homogenates: 29.41-132.35 mg/L and 31.05–113.10 mg/L for tri-components homogenates for spectrophotometric and titrimetric methods respectively. The results of dietary exposure and the health effects of excess vitamin C intake showed that children are more susceptible to health issues than adults in illnesses such as nausea, gastrointestinal pains, increased kidney stones and hyperactivity. Conclusion. There is therefore the need for a national recommended dietary allowance for total ascorbic acid (AA) in FAV homogenates from a stakeholder point of view in Nigeria.

Lead (Pb) is the most dangerous xenobiotic causing variety of negative impacts on human and animal health.The current study intended to investigate the effect of different doses of Pb on biochemical and histological abnormalities in the kidney and liver of quail and the beneficial effects of vitamin C. A total of 72 male quail, aged 12 days were allotted in four groups with four replications. Control group (T0) received normal diet, group T1 and T2 received Pb at a dose of 70 mg and 700 mg/kg body weight (bw) respectively for 21 days, while T3 had 700 mg Pb /kg bw for 10 days followed by only vitamin C supplementation at a dose of 70 mg/kg bw without any Pb for next 10 days. Abstract Background Urolithiasis is a unique disease that can cause emergencies and can impair kidney function over time, especially if infections overlap. This work aimed to compare urolithiasis in the pre- and post-pandemic era and to study the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on patient preferences and decision-making for symptomatic urolithiasis and consequently complications. Methods This case–control multi-center study was conducted at the Urology Department of two tertiary centers in XXX. Participants were divided into two groups: group A: patients who had urolithiasis from March 1, 2018, to February 29, 2020 (pre-COVID-19 period), and group B: patients who had urolithiasis from March 1, 2020, to February 28, 2022 (during COVID-19 period). Results Group A had a significantly higher incidence of percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) without double J stenting (DJ), nephrolithotomy + pyelolithotomy and total PCNL compared to group B which had a lower incidence of URS without DJ and total URS. The operation was delayed among 72 (15.9%) patients during the pandemic. In total, 116 (25.6%) were subjected to previous stone removal surgery. In total, 59 (13%) of patients had COVID-19 infection before stone diagnosis. One hundred thirty-two patients (29.1%) were on vitamin C. The presence of positive family history was statistically significant in patients who underwent ESWL in comparison with patients who underwent endoscopy or surgery (P = 0.03). Conclusions COVID-19 significantly impacted endourological services for urinary stones in terms of surgical volume and case complexity.

Relevance. The garden strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa (Weston) Duchesne ex Rozier) is a widespread berry crop distinguished by its fast vegetative growth, early bearing age, and high yield and plasticity. Today everbearing (remontant) strawberry varieties gain in popularity due to their long fruiting period, and high yield and berry quality. Annually new foreign varieties appear on the Russian market. For this reason, it is important to study foreign garden strawberry varieties of different ecological and geographical origin and identify those of them that are adaptable to agro-climatic conditions of a given region. The research goal was to determine the biochemical and customer qualities of the garden strawberry varieties introduced in Primorsky kray and to select varieties with economically important traits for further breeding and production. Research methods. The research was carried out in the nursery of primary variety testing at FSBSI “FSC of Agricultural Biotechnology of the Far East named after A.K. Chaiki”. The following garden strawberry varieties of foreign breeding origin were used as the research object: Сabrillo (USA), Albion (USA), Florentina (Netherlands), Murano (Italy), and Bravura (Netherlands). The studied varieties were day-neutral and everbearing. Variety Elizaveta 2 was used as the control (Russian breeding origin; admitted to use in all regions of the Russian Federation). The following parameters were evaluated: total yield, average berry weight, maximum berry weight, berry size, the yield of marketable berries, and the content of dry matter, reduced sugars, and vitamin C. The accumulation of anthocyanins in berries was determined by a rapid assessment using a color scale. Records were made and scientific observations were conducted according to “Program and methods of variety testing of fruit, berry, and nut crops” (1999). Results. Based on the results of the research on the economically important traits of the everbearing day-neutral strawberry varieties introduced in Primorsky kray, the following varieties were selected: Cabrillo for yield (263.3 g/plant, control – 82.8 g/plant), Murano for the yield of marketable berries (81.3 %), and Bravura (15.5 g) and Florentina (15.2 g) for berry size. The highest content of dry matter was accumulated in berries of variety Аlbion (9.87%). The highest content of reduced sugars was found in varieties Cabrillo (7.16%), Florentina (7.09 %), and Аlbion (7.09 %); of vitamin C – in Florentina (60.30 mg/100 g), and of anthocyanins – in Murano (50 mg/100 g). Murano was established to be the most promising variety under the conditions of Primorky kray for the complex of its traits.

Organically produced food is gaining increased attention from consumers due to the belief that, besides being environmentally friendly, it also contains higher quantities of phytochemical components that play a protective role in human health. In this study, carrots grown organically by six different certified producers were analyzed. The antioxidant nutritional quality of fresh organic carrots, thermally processed juice at 70 °C and 90 °C, and dried slices (55 °C) was investigated. Variations in the concentration of vitamin C, β-carotenoids, total phenolic compounds (TPC), and total antioxidant activity (TAA) were observed depending on the producer and the method of thermal processing. The minimal losses of phytochemical components were observed during juice pasteurization at 70 °C, while the drying process resulted in the highest losses. Additionally, a significant positive correlation was identified among vitamin C, β-carotenoids, and TPC with TAA content.

Abstract The active DNA demethylation process, which involves TET proteins, can affect DNA methylation pattern. TET dependent demethylation results in DNA hypomethylation by oxidation 5-methylcytosine (5-mC) to 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5-hmC) and its derivatives. Moreover, TETs’ activity may be upregulated by ascorbate. Given that aberrant DNA methylation of genes implicated in breast carcinogenesis may be involved in tumor progression, we wanted to determine whether breast cancer patients exert changes in the active DNA demethylation process. The study included blood samples from breast cancer patients (n = 74) and healthy subjects (n = 71). We analyzed the expression of genes involved in the active demethylation process (qRT-PCR), and 5–mC and its derivatives level (2D-UPLC MS/MS). The ascorbate level was determined using UPLC-MS. Breast cancer patients had significantly higher TET3 expression level, lower 5-mC and 5-hmC DNA levels. TET3 was significantly increased in luminal B breast cancer patients with expression of hormone receptors. Moreover, the ascorbate level in the plasma of breast cancer patients was decreased with the accompanying increase of sodium-dependent vitamin C transporters (SLC23A1 and SLC23A2). The presented study indicates the role of TET3 in DNA demethylation in breast carcinogenesis.

Abstract Introduction This case study reports on a suicide attempt involving indoxacarb and vitamin C. Indoxacarb is a neurotoxic insecticide used in agriculture and as a flea controller in pets. Cotton, vegetables, and fruits are treated with indoxacarb, an insecticide that can be applied both indoors and outdoors. It causes skin allergies, methemoglobinemia, and hemolytic anemia. It is also attributed to allergic reactions through ingestion, inhalation, physical contact, and translaminar action. This case report highlights use of vitamin C in methemoglobinemia caused by indoxacarb poisoning. Indoxacarb poisoning has the potential to be extremely serious and even lethal. In this instance, the patient initially had no symptoms after ingesting a substance containing indoxacarb in an attempt at suicide. However, further tests revealed methemoglobinemia and low oxygen levels. Case presentation A 28-year-old south-east Asian female patient ingested an insecticide containing 5.25% novaluron, 4.5% indoxacarb, and 25% thiamethoxam, and reported that she noticed muddy brown urine but presented with no active signs or symptoms of poisoning. Upon examination, the patient was fully conscious, alert, and hemodynamically stable, but had an oxygen saturation of 84%. Gastric lavage was performed, and blood investigations revealed a muddy-brown-colored blood sample and methemoglobin levels of 12%. The patient was treated with high-dose vitamin C and showed significant improvement, with a drop in methemoglobin levels to 1.2% and an increase in oxygen saturation to 97%. Discussion Indoxacarb poisoning can cause severe methemoglobinemia. Vitamin C may be a useful treatment option for methemoglobinemia caused by indoxacarb, particularly in cases in which traditional treatment with methylene blue is contraindicated or not tolerated. Hence high doses of ascorbic acid, that is, vitamin C, were administered to the patient, which lowered their methemoglobin levels and improved oxygen levels without much safety concerns. Conclusion This example emphasizes the significance of early indoxacarb poisoning detection and treatment as well as the possible advantages of utilizing ascorbic acid in the management of methemoglobinemia, and highlights the use of vitamin C in the treatment of methemoglobinemia caused by indoxacarb poisoning. Therefore, it is important for healthcare professionals to be aware of the potential for indoxacarb to cause methemoglobinemia and to consider vitamin C as a treatment option.

Abstract Background At present, the need for vitamin C supplementation for pregnant smokers has not been fully studied. This study is aimed at investigating whether vitamin C supplementation for pregnant smoking women can improve the pulmonary function of their offspring. Methods Four databases were searched from inception to April 1, 2023 for studies on the effect of vitamin C supplementation to pregnant smokers on the pulmonary function of their offspring. Meanwhile, the reference lists of relevant studies were manually searched. The risk of bias in the included studies was assessed using the Cochrane Collaboration tool, and the data was analyzed using STATA/SE 17.0. Results Four randomized controlled trials (RCTs), all of high quality, were enrolled in this meta-analysis, including 787 pregnant women. The offspring of pregnant smokers who received vitamin C supplementation exhibited improved Forced Expiratory Flow between 25 and 75% (FEF25-75), FEF50, FEF75, and Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) compared to those who did not receive vitamin C supplementation. However, there was no statistically significant difference in Forced Expiratory Volume at 0.5 s (FEV0.5) and the ratio of FEV0.5 to FVC between the offspring of pregnant smokers who received vitamin C and the control group. Conclusion Vitamin C supplementation for smoking pregnant women may enhance the pulmonary function of their offspring, particularly in FEF25-75, FEF50, FEF75, and FVC. Nevertheless, there are no significant differences in FEV0.5 and the FEV0.5/FVC ratio. These findings suggest that vitamin C supplementation has potential benefits for specific pulmonary function. Further studies are needed to comprehensively assess the effects of vitamin C on pulmonary function in the context of maternal smoking during pregnancy.

We report the synthesis of 4-nitrophenyl (4-NP) functionalised Pt(IV) complexes as a colorimetric strategy for monitoring Pt(IV) reduction in aqueous solution. Treatment of each 4-NP functionalised Pt(IV) complex with the biological reductant sodium ascorbate led to a colour change from clear to yellow, which was attributed to the reduction of Pt(IV) to Pt(II) and simultaneous release of 4-nitroaniline. The advanced aqueous zinc–ion batteries (AZIBs) are still challenging due to the harmful reactions including hydrogen evolution and corrosion. Here, a natural small molecule acid vitamin C (Vc) as an aqueous electrolyte additive has been selectively identified. The small molecule Vc can adjust the d band center of Zn substrate which fixes the active H+ so that the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is restrained. Simultaneously, it could also fine–tune the solvation structure of Zn ions due to the enhanced electrostatics and reduced Pauli repulsion verified by energy decomposition analysis (EDA). Hence, the cell retains an ultra–long cycle performance of over 1300 cycles and a superior Coulombic efficiency (CE) of 99.5 %. The prepared full cells display increased rate capability, cycle lifetime, and self–discharge suppression. Our results shed light on the mechanistic principle of electrolyte additives on the performance improvement of ZIBs, which is anticipated to render a new round of studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A mutual extension of an increasing demand for LiFePO 4 (LFP) is the need to develop a synthesis technique that enables improved particle morphology and size control at different scales. In this study, the polyol method was used for this purpose and modified to allow in-situ interventions, which, in turn, increased flexibility in particle design. Ethylene glycol was used as a reaction medium, and pure, porous, hierarchical LFP nanoparticles were synthesized at the lowest temperature reported in the literature. The primary and secondary particle size and morphology could be altered almost independently by controlling the amount and the addition sequence of the ascorbic acid (AA) and citric acid (CA). It was possible to control the particle features at different scales after the individual and combined effects of the acids were revealed. Particles with equiaxed small primaries (∼20 nm) and a mild aspect ratio in the secondaries (∼1.5) led to tap densities of 1.98 g/cm3, which is the highest value reported in the literature. Even though the heat treatment applied in this work had limitations in inducing a fully graphitized layer of carbon on LFPs, the added boost from the increased tap densities was observable in the high volumetric discharge capacities. Ascorbic acid (AsA) plays an indispensable role in plants, serving as both an antioxidant and a master regulator of the cellular redox balance. Ascorbate oxidase (AO) is a blue copper oxidase that is responsible for the oxidation of AsA with the concomitant production of water. For many decades, AO was erroneously postulated as an enzyme without any obvious advantage, as it decreases the AsA pool size and thus is expected to weaken plant stress resistance. It was only a decade ago that this perspective shifted towards the fundamental role of AO in orchestrating both AsA and oxygen levels by influencing the overall redox balance in the extracellular matrix. Consistent with its localization in the apoplast, AO is involved in cell expansion, division, resource allocation, and overall plant yield. An increasing number of transgenic studies has demonstrated that AO can also facilitate communication between the surrounding environment and the cell, as its gene expression is highly responsive to factors such as hormonal signaling, oxidative stress, and mechanical injury. This review aims to describe the multiple functions of AO in plant growth, development, and stress resilience, and explore any additional roles the enzyme might have in fruits during the course of ripening. Ascorbate is involved in numerous vital processes, in particular in response to abiotic but also biotic stresses whose frequency and amplitude increase with climate change. Ascorbate levels vary greatly depending on species, tissues, or stages of development, but also in response to stress. Since its discovery, the ascorbate biosynthetic pathway has been intensely studied and it appears that GDP- l -galactose phosphorylase (GGP) is the enzyme with the greatest role in the control of ascorbate biosynthesis. Like other enzymes of this pathway, its expression is induced by various environmental and also developmental factors. Although mRNAs encoding it are among the most abundant in the transcriptome, the protein is only present in very small quantities. In fact, GGP translation is repressed by a negative feedback mechanism involving a small open reading frame located upstream of the coding sequence (uORF). Moreover, its activity is inhibited by a PAS/LOV type photoreceptor, the action of which is counteracted by blue light. Consequently, this multi-level regulation of GGP would allow fine control of ascorbate synthesis. Indeed, experiments varying the expression of GGP have shown that it plays a central role in response to stress. l -Ascorbic acid (AsA, vitamin C) is a pivotal dietary nutrient with multifaceted importance in living organisms. In plants, the Smirnoff–Wheeler pathway is the primary route for AsA biosynthesis, and understanding the mechanistic details behind its component enzymes has implications for plant biology, nutritional science, and biotechnology. As part of an initiative to determine the structures of all six core enzymes of the pathway, the present study focuses on three of them in the model species Myrciaria dubia (camu-camu): GDP- d -mannose 3',5'-epimerase (GME), l -galactose dehydrogenase (l -GalDH), and l -galactono-1,4-lactone dehydrogenase (l -GalLDH). We provide insights into substrate and cofactor binding and the conformational changes they induce. The Md GME structure reveals a distorted substrate in the active site, pertinent to the catalytic mechanism. Md l -GalDH shows that the way in which NAD+ association affects loop structure over the active site is not conserved when compared with its homologue in spinach. Finally, the structure of Md l -GalLDH is described for the first time. This allows for the rationalization of previously identified residues which play important roles in the active site or in the formation of the covalent bond with FAD. Ascorbate (vitamin C) is one of the most abundant primary metabolites in plants. Its complex chemistry enables it to function as an antioxidant, as a free radical scavenger, and as a reductant for iron and copper. Ascorbate biosynthesis occurs via the mannose/ l -galactose pathway in green plants, and the evidence for this pathway being the major route is reviewed. Ascorbate accumulation is leaves is responsive to light, reflecting various roles in photoprotection. GDP- l -galactose phosphorylase (GGP) is the first dedicated step in the pathway and is important in controlling ascorbate synthesis. Its expression is determined by a combination of transcription and translation. Translation is controlled by an upstream open reading frame (uORF) which blocks translation of the main GGP-coding sequence, possibly in an ascorbate-dependent manner. GGP associates with a PAS-LOV protein, inhibiting its activity, and dissociation is induced by blue light. While low ascorbate mutants are susceptible to oxidative stress, they grow nearly normally. In contrast, mutants lacking ascorbate do not grow unless rescued by supplementation. Further research should investigate possible basal functions of ascorbate in severely deficient plants involving prevention of iron overoxidation in 2-oxoglutarate-dependent dioxygenases and iron mobilization during seed development and germination. We aimed to prospectively assess the association between variety and quantity of fruits and vegetables (FV) and cardiovascular diseases (CVD) incidence and mortality due to the limited evidence. Our analysis included 2,918 adults with a follow-up period of 29,559 person-years. An inverse association was detected between fruit intake and the risk of incidence and mortality from CVD. We found no association between diversity scores of fruits, vegetables, and FV with CVD risk. Subjects with high quantity-high variety, high quantity-low variety, and low quantity-high variety of fruits, vegetables, or FV exhibited no difference in CVD risk compared to the subjects with low quantity-low variety intake. Increasing the variety of FV was associated with increases in the intake of β-carotene, lycopene, lutein, vitamin C, selenium, fibre, fat, and protein after adjustment for the quantity and covariates. Knowing the true levels of nutrients and dietary bioactives in fruit juices at the point of consumption is key to properly understand their potential health benefits. The objective was to characterise the vitamin C and flavanone content in commercial orange juices consumed in Europe, compared with fresh-squeezed juices. Commercial juices were a rich source of vitamin C (>30% of the Nutrient Reference Value). Vitamin C in fresh-squeezed juices, at the end of their shelf-life, remained 33% higher than the levels found in the commercial juices. Flavanones had similar values from both commercial and fresh juices, except for fresh samples stored for 48 h, where fresh juices had higher values (22.36 mg/100 mL). Thus, orange juices preserve their bioactive compounds during storage, with very little influence of the brand, country, industrial process or storage conditions. To increase the oxidative stability of flaxseed oil (FSO), combinations of two synergists (vitamin C, citric acid) and five distinct antioxidants (SDG (Secoisolariciresinol diglucoside), tea polyphenol (TP), resveratrol (RE), caffeic acid (CA), and vitamin E (VE)) were assessed. Based on the accelerated oxidation reaction at 65°C, the antioxidant effect was assessed for changes in the shelf‐life, fatty acid composition, peroxide value (POV), volatile and sterol contents of FSO. The SDG multi‐antioxidant combination, which included 0.01% SDG, 0.01% TP, and 0.02% vitamin C, demonstrated the strongest antioxidative qualities, according to the data; the POV of FSO dropped by 57.5% as compared to the blank group. Additionally, the SDG multi‐antioxidant combination outperformed 0.02% TBHQ (tertiary butylhydroquinone), increased the shelf‐life of FSO from 295 to 761 days, and postponed the deterioration of sterols and unsaturated fatty acids. Furthermore, the production of ketones and the degradation of esters and acids were diminished. In summary, the combination of SDG‐TP and vitamin C as antioxidants can be an effective natural alternative to artificial antioxidants to extend the shelf‐life of FSO. The present study was conducted to evaluate the availability of citrus byproduct (CBP) as a vitamin C additive compared with the L-ascorbyl-polyphosphate (LAPP) for juvenile Korean rockfish Sebastes schlegelii. Four experimental diets, based on the basal diet (Con; semi-purified, crude protein 48%), were prepared by supplementing LAPP or CBP to achieve a dietary vitamin C concentration of 90 or 360 mg/kg (designated as LAPP90, LAPP360, CBP90, and CBP360, respectively). Three replicate groups of S. schlegelii (mean body weight ± standard deviation = 4.5 ± 0.0 g) were fed the experimental diets for 13 weeks. After the feeding trial, growth performance, feed utilization efficiency, and survival were significantly lower in the Con group. Liver vitamin C concentration was significantly increased (36.7–117 mg/kg) with increasing dietary LAPP levels; however, there was no significant difference in the CBP groups (14.2–14.3 mg/kg) compared with the Con group. Bone collagen concentration was significantly affected by LAPP and CBP supplementation. The LAPP and CBP groups showed significantly higher lysozyme activity and total immunoglobulin levels than the Con group. Disease resistance against Streptococcus iniaewas significantly improved in the LAPP and CBP groups (60–92% survival) than in the Con group (39% survival). Traditional methods of garlic fertilization involve large amounts of balanced fertilizer with equal proportions of N, P, and K, leading to nutrient imbalances, reduced yield and nutritional quality, and elevated risk of environmental pollution. This study for the first time measured garlic nutrient absorption and mineral elements status in garlic fields. In addition, a garlic-specific fertilizer formula and recommended rate were designed and applied in multiple garlic fields during the 2019–21 growing season. We assessed the performance of garlic-specific fertilizer in terms of yield, quality, and nutrient utilization efficiency. We showed that garlic prefers to absorb N and K, and its absorption of P was much lower. Deficiencies in Cl, Mn, S, and Fe are found in 98.7%, 56.1%, 22.8%, and 11.9% of garlic fields. Compared with farmer fertilization, the garlic-specific fertilizers increased sprout yield by 12.9% to 30.5%, bulb yield by 11.0% to 33.5%, and net income by 18.2% to 45.6%. Furthermore, it improved the nutritional quality [vitamin C (Vc), soluble sugar (SS), and soluble protein] of the garlic and reduced the accumulation of nitrate. The formula of special fertilizer was more in line with the law of garlic nutrient absorption, increasing the nutrient utilization effect, reducing the environmental risks. Application of specific fertilizer increased N, P, and K partial productivity by 26.6% to 50.1%, 82.6% to 116.5%, and 54.6% to 83.3%, respectively. An experimental study was conducted to assess the detrimental effect of ground-level ozone (O3) on garlic physiology and to find out appropriate control measures against ground-level O3, at TNAU-Horticultural Research farm, Udhagamandalam. Elevated ground ozone levels significantly decreased garlic leaf chlorophyll, photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, total soluble solids and pungency. The garlic chlorophyll content was highest in ambient ozone level and lowest in elevated ozone@200 ppb, highest stomatal conductance was recorded in ambient ozone with foliar spray of 3%Panchagavya, and the lowest was observed in elevated ozone@200 ppb. Since the elevated O3 had reduced in garlic photosynthetic rate significantly the lowest was observed in elevated O3@200 ppb and the highest photosynthetic rate was observed in ambient Ozone with foliar spray 3% of panchagavya after a week. The antioxidant enzymes of garlic were increased with increased concentration of tropospheric ozone. The highest catalase (60.97 µg of H2O2/g of leaf) and peroxidase (9.13 ΔA/min/g of leaf) concentration was observed at 200 ppb elevated ozone level. Garlic pungency content was highest in ambient ozone with foliar spray of 0.1% ascorbic acid and the lowest was observed under elevated O3@200 ppb. Highest total soluble solids were observed in ambient ozone with foliar spray of 3%Panchagavya and the lowest observed in elevated ozone@200 ppb. Thus, tropospheric ozone has a detrimental impact on the physiology of crops, which reduced crop growth and yield. Under elevated O3 levels, ascorbic acid performed well followed by panchagavya and neem oil. The antioxidant such as catalase and peroxidase had positive correlation among themselves and had negative correlation with chlorophyll content, stomatal conductance, photosynthetic rate, pungency and TSS. The photosynthetic rate has high positive correlation with chlorophyll content, pungency and TSS. Correlation analysis confirmed the negative effects of tropospheric ozone and garlic gas exchange parameters and clove quality. 5,10,15,20-tetramethoxyphenylporphyrinatotin (IV) (SnTMPP) was synthesised. SnTMPP exhibited Soret band at 432 nm and emission peaks at 629 and 682 nm. The fluorescence intensity of SnTMPP was quenched in the presence of guanine linearly in the range 4 × 10–9 M to 7.2 × 10–8 M and the quenching response was found to be stable even in the presence of other nucleosides such as adenine, cytosine, uracil, thymine, alanine, aspartic acid and ascorbic acid. The detection limit was found to be 0.17 nM and the mechanism behind the decrease in the fluorescence intensity of SnTMPP in the presence of guanine is due to dynamic quenching, which was confirmed by cyclic voltammetric studies and life time studies. Scurvy is a nutritional disease caused by ascorbic acid (vitamin C) deficiency. Althought currently it is a rare disease, we should considerer it in the differential diagnosis of purpura and arthritis in patients with restrictive diets. We present the case of a 49-year-old man with a history of a nutritional disorder presented to our hospital with generalized purpura and hemarthros. Following the anamnesis and laboratory findings, rheumatological, infectious and hematological etiologies were excluded. Finally, the diagnosis of scurvy was made upon demostration poor levels of vitamin C and a spectacular response to nutritional supplements. Particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter ≤2.5 μm (PM2.5) is a public health risk. We investigate PM2.5 on metabolites in cardiomyocytes and the influence of vitamin C on PM2.5 toxicity. For 24 hours, H9C2 were exposed to various concentrations of PM2.5 (0, 100, 200, 400, 800 μg/ml), after which the levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and cell viability were measured using the cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) and 2′,7′-dichlorofluoresceindiacetate (DCFH2-DA), respectively. H9C2 were treated with PM2.5 (200 μg/ml) in the presence or absence of vitamin C (40 μmol/L). mRNA levels of interleukin 6(IL-6), caspase-3, fatty acid-binding protein 3 (FABP3), and hemeoxygenase-1 (HO-1) were investigated by quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction. Non-targeted metabolomics by LC-MS/MS was applied to evaluate the metabolic profile in the cell. Results revealed a concentration-dependent reduction in cell viability, death, ROS, and increased expression of caspase-3, FABP3, and IL-6. In total, 15 metabolites exhibited significant differential expression (FC > 2, p < 0.05) between the control and PM2.5 group. In the PM2.5 group, lysophosphatidylcholines (LysoPC,3/3) were upregulated, whereas amino acids (5/5), amino acid analogues (3/3), and other acids and derivatives (4/4) were downregulated. PM2.5 toxicity was lessened by vitamin C. It reduced PM2.5-induced elevation of LysoPC (16:0), LysoPC (16:1), and LysoPC (18:1). This article discusses the effectiveness of combining non-ablative fractional laser (NAFL) treatment with a serum containing vitamin C, vitamin E, and ferulic acid (CE Ferulic) for improving skin quality in the Asian population. The study includes case reports of patients who underwent NAFL therapy and applied the CE Ferulic serum topically. The results showed improvements in skin parameters such as wrinkles, skin texture, and pore size, as well as a reduction in erythema and pain. Torsional stress in double-stranded DNA enables and regulates facets of chromosomal metabolism, replication, and transcription and requires regulatory enzymatic systems including topoisomerases and histone methyltransferases. As such, this machinery may be subject to deleterious effects from reactive mutagens, including ones from carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) adduct formation with DNA. Supercoiled plasmid DNA was investigated for its torsional responses to adducts formed in vitro from PAH benzylic carbocation reactive intermediates created spontaneously by release of leaving groups. PAH sulfate esters were found to (1) unwind DNA in a concentration dependent manner, and (2) provide maximum unwinding in a pattern consistent with known carcinogenicities of the parent PAHs, that is, 6-methylbenzo[a]pyrene > 7,12-methylbenz[a]anthracene > 3-methylcholanthrene > 9-methylanthracene > 7-methylbenz[a]anthracene > 1-methylpyrene. Supercoil unwinding was demonstrated to be dependent on the presence of sulfate or chloride leaving groups such that reactive carbocations were generated in situ by hydrolysis. In silico modeling of intercalative complex topology showed PAH benzylic carbocation reactive functional groups in alignment with target nucleophiles on guanine bases in a 5'-dCdG-3' pocket in agreement with known formation of nucleotide adducts. Inhibitory or modulatory effects on PAH-induced supercoil unwinding were seen with ascorbic acid and an experimental antineoplastic agent Antineoplaston A10 in agreement with their known anticarcinogenic properties. In summary, the reactive PAH intermediates studied here undoubtedly participate in well-known mutational mechanisms such as frameshifts and apurinic site generation. However, they are also capable of random disruption of chromosomal supercoiling in a manner consistent with the known carcinogenicities of the parent compounds, and this mechanism may represent an additional detrimental motif worthy of further study for a more complete understanding of chemical carcinogenicity. We propose that the diet-derived compound ergothioneine (ET) is an important nutrient in the human body, especially for maintenance of normal brain function, and that low body ET levels predispose humans to significantly increased risks of neurodegenerative (cognitive impairment, dementia, Parkinson's disease) and possibly other age-related diseases (including frailty, cardiovascular disease, and eye disease). Hence, restoring ET levels in the body could assist in mitigating these risks, which are rapidly increasing due to ageing populations globally. Prevention of neurodegeneration is especially important, since by the time dementia is usually diagnosed damage to the brain is extensive and likely irreversible. ET and vitamin E from the diet may act in parallel or even synergistically to protect different parts of the brain; both may be "neuroprotective vitamins". The present article reviews the substantial scientific basis supporting these proposals about the role of ET. BACKGROUND: This study aimed to investigate the effect of 6, 12, and 24 h short‐term anaerobic treatment on kiwiberry quality and antioxidant properties at 5 °C. RESULTS: Short‐term anaerobic treatment was found to delay ripening and softening in kiwiberries, evident from changes in ethylene release, total soluble solids, starch, protopectin, and fruit texture. The 24 h treatment group exhibited the lowest decay rate of 12% on day 49, a 38% reduction compared with the control group. Anaerobic treatment reduced flesh translucency and decay in the fruit. The 12 h and 24 h treatments enhanced the activities of superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, catalase, and ascorbate peroxidase, and increased the level of total phenolics, flavonoids, anthocyanins, and ascorbic acid. Moreover, it lowered oxidative damage in cell membranes, evidenced by reduced malondialdehyde content and relative conductivity. CONCLUSION: These results indicate that anaerobic treatment maintains the fruit quality by stimulating its antioxidant defense system. BACKGROUND: Potato is the most important non‐grain crop worldwide, whose quality characteristics are always affected by temporal and spatial variability. Knowledge of the performance consistency of quality characteristics over long periods could prove very important to identify which quality traits are less variable over time, and therefore provide greater guarantees of stability. In this research, variations in physicochemical and nutritional traits of tubers over five consecutive growing seasons of two potato genotypes (Arizona and Vogue) were monitored in two locations. RESULTS: Although qualitative performances of genotypes fluctuated across the seasons in both locations, two physicochemical traits (pH and dry matter content) and starch content showed less variability throughout the five seasons compared to total soluble solids and most of the nutritional traits (namely reducing sugars, citric acid, vitamin C, total phenolics and antioxidant capacity), which were considerably influenced by weather conditions. CONCLUSION: The results suggest that pH, dry matter content and starch content traits could be used advantageously in studies of temporal stability in potatoes. The research explored Canna indica's ability to extract Cd in hydroponic conditions, determining its upper tolerance threshold and assessing Cd's impact on growth and biochemical properties. Plants were grown in 5L tanks containing nutrient solutions with varying Cd concentrations (0, 100, 200, 300, and 400 mg/L) for 18 days. Each treatment was performed in triplicate. Analysis of Cd content across roots, shoot, and leaves revealed high absorption rates of 89.5% to 96.8% efficiency for Cd treatments of 100–400 mg/L. Metrics like bioaccumulation coefficient (BAC), translocation factor (TF), and bio-concentration factor (BCF) were determined, indicating BAC > 1 across treatments, while TF was <1 for 100 mg/L and >1 for higher Cd treatments. Bio-concentration patterns varied with Cd concentration. Optimal Cd uptake occurred at 200–300 mg/L, declining notably at 400 mg/L. The study suggests C. indica's potential for phytoextraction up to 400 mg/L Cd contamination, but adverse effects emerged at ≥300 mg/L: reduced chlorophyll pigments, ascorbic acid, fresh/dry weights, and elevated leaf pH, indicating a Cd tolerance threshold of 300 mg/L for C. indica. Bio-stimulants are gaining importance for elevating the stagnated yield level resulting from continuous use of chemical fertilizers (CF) in many crops, however, their use in pomegranate have not been fully explored. Two years of field experiments were conducted on a 5-years old pomegranate cv. Bhagwa orchard to investigate the effects of different combinations of commercial bio-stimulant products namely, microbial-based product A containing consortium of Rhizophagus spp. (5 kg ha−1), seaweed extract-based granular formulation D (30 kg ha−1) and liquid formulation B (625 and 1250 ml ha−1) through soil application as well as wettable granular formulation, C (1 and 2 g l−1) and liquid formulation, E (1 ml l−1) through foliar sprays along with chemical fertilizers on soil fertility, trees' nutrition, fruit yield and quality of pomegranate. Results showed that integrated use of CF and bio-stimulants significantly increased the number of bisexual flowers. However, the combination of microbial-based product A (5 kg ha−1), seaweed extract based liquid formulation B (625 ml ha−1) in soil and foliar spary of seaweed extract based wettable granular formulation C (1–2 g l−1) with CF resulted in production of the highest fruit yield (increased by 41.97–51.61%) with 23.08–33.38% increase in the exportable grade fruit and improved quality attributes viz. ascorbic acid, anthocyanin, non-reducing sugar, protein, and mineral content of fruits through enhancement in soil fertility and trees' micronutrient status compared to only CF. These doses combinations of bio-stimulants along with CF gave rise to the highest benefit–cost ratio of 2.10–2.34:1 and hence can be recommended for sustainable pomegranate cultivation. Children receiving maintenance dialysis (chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage 5d) have unique risk factors for micronutrient deficiency or toxicity. Children receiving chronic dialysis often require specialized diet plans that may provide more than the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of water-soluble vitamins and micronutrients, with or without the addition of a kidney-friendly vitamin. The following is a comprehensive review of current literature on disorders of micronutrients in this population including those of water-soluble vitamins (vitamin C and vitamin B complexes) and trace elements (copper, selenium, and zinc) and has three areas of focus: (1) the risk factors and clinical presentations of disorders of micronutrients, both deficiency and toxicity, (2) the tools to evaluate micronutrient status, and (3) the central role of renal dietitians in optimizing nutritional status from a micronutrient perspective. Vitamin C is an important micronutrient for human. Association between vitamin C and trouble sleeping was less studied. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the possible link between vitamin C in serum and trouble sleeping. The cross-sectional data was derived from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES, 2017–2018). Trouble sleeping was measured by asking participants: “Have you ever told doctor had trouble sleeping”. Responses to this question was “yes” or “no”. vitamin C in serum was obtained by measuring the serum samples. We used multivariable binary logistic regressions to examine the possible link between vitamin C in serum and trouble sleeping, and then a subgroup analysis was performed. Tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate (THDA) and acetyl zingerone (AZ) are potent antioxidants that have been shown to have anti‐photoaging and anti‐pigmentation effects. THDA is a more stable and penetrable form of vitamin C. AZ is an antioxidant derived from ginger which has clinical evidence for improving photoaging. However, no studies have assessed how they may synergistically act on the skin.This study aims to assess whether a serum containing both THDA and AZ can improve photoaging and the appearance of uneven facial pigmentation.This open‐label study was conducted on 35 healthy individuals aged 21–55. All subjects were instructed to use three to five drops of the topical serum (Power‐C Serum, Image Skincare, Lantana, FL) daily for 12 weeks. Videomicroscopy and high‐resolution photography and various skin biophysical measurements were taken at baseline, 1, 4, and 12 weeks. Outcomes included skin tone and pigmentation, transepidermal water loss (TEWL), skin smoothness, firmness, and elasticity.Compared to baseline, the results at 12 weeks revealed significant decreases in skin pigmentation (p < 0.0001), decreased fine lines and wrinkles (p < 0.0001), and increased smoothness (p < 0.0001), firmness (p < 0.0001), and elasticity (p < 0.0001). This study aimed to determine the effect of the drying method (freeze-drying, air-drying), storage period (12 months), and storage conditions (2–4 °C, 18–22 °C) applied to two legume species: green beans and green peas. The raw and dried materials were determined for selected physical parameters typical of dried vegetables, contents of bioactive components (vitamin C and E, total chlorophyll, total carotenoids, β-carotene, and total polyphenols), antioxidative activity against the DPPH radical, and sensory attributes (overall quality and profiles of color, texture, and palatability). Green beans had a significantly higher content of bioactive components compared to peas. Freeze-drying and cold storage conditions facilitated better retention of these compounds, i.e., by 9–39% and 3–11%, respectively. After 12 months of storage, higher retention of bioactive components, except for total chlorophyll, was determined in peas regardless of the drying method, i.e., by 38–75% in the freeze-dried product and 30–77% in the air-dried product, compared to the raw material. This paper reviews studies investigating the impact of additional vitamin supplementation on stress reduction in pigs. Vitamin A can be beneficial in counteracting viral and parasitic threats. Vitamin B can be a potential solution for reproductive issues, but it might also be beneficial in reducing the effects of inappropriate nutrition. Vitamin C plays a vital role in reducing the effects of heat stress or exposure to toxins in pigs. Novel concepts to utilize carbon dioxide are required to reach a circular carbon economy and minimize environmental issues. To achieve these goals, photo‐, electro‐, thermal‐, and biocatalysis are key tools to realize this, preferentially in aqueous solutions. Nevertheless, catalytic systems that operate efficiently in water are scarce. Here, we present a general strategy for the identification of enzymes suitable for CO2 reduction based on structural analysis for potential carbon dioxide binding sites and subsequent mutations. We discovered that the phenolic acid decarboxylase from Bacillus subtilis (BsPAD) promotes the aqueous photocatalytic CO2 reduction selectively to carbon monoxide in the presence of a ruthenium photosensitizer and sodium ascorbate. With engineered variants of BsPAD, TONs of up to 978 and selectivities of up to 93 % (favoring the desired CO over H2 generation) were achieved. Mutating the active site region of BsPAD further improved turnover numbers for CO generation. This also revealed that electron transfer is rate‐limiting and occurs via multistep tunneling. The generality of this approach was proven by using eight other enzymes, all showing the desired activity underlining that a range of proteins is capable of photocatalytic CO2 reduction. The detection of ascorbic acid (AA), dopamine (DA), and uric acid (UA) is not only of great significance in the areas of biomedicine and neurochemistry but also helpful in disease diagnosis and pathology research. Due to their diverse structures, designability, and large specific surface areas, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have recently caught considerable attention in the electrochemical field. Herein, a family of heterometallic MOFs with amino modification, MIL-125(Ti-Al)-xNH2 (x = 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%), were synthesized and employed as electrochemical sensors for the detection of AA, DA, and UA. Among them, MIL-125(Ti-Al)-75%NH2 exhibited the most promising electrochemical behavior with 40% doping of carbon black in 0.1 M PBS (pH = 7.10), which displayed individual detection performance with wide linear detection ranges (1.0-6.5 mM for AA, 5-100 μM for DA and 5-120 μM for UA) and low limits of detection (0.215 mM for AA, 0.086 μM for DA, and 0.876 μM for UA, S/N = 3). Furthermore, the as-prepared MIL-125(Ti-Al)-75%NH2/GCE provided a promising platform for future application in real sample analysis, owing to its excellent anti-interference performance and good stability. Ascorbic acid (AA) is a biomarker of some nervous system diseases, whose detection is of significance in many fields. The hydrothermal reaction of naphthalene‐2,6‐dicarboxylic acid (H2NDBC) with Eu3+ produced a europium MOF, Eu‐NDBC. Eu‐NDBC emits the combined emissions from the intraligand charge transfer (ILCT) of NDBC2− ligand and 5D0→7Fj (j=1–4) transfers of Eu(III). The factors of MOF dosage, pH and fluorescence response time are optimized as 0.6 mg, 7.35, and 5 min respectively. The sensitivity test shows a linear fitting equation of I0/I=0.00239 ⋅ CAA+1.03774 (CAA=AA concentration), with its limit of detection calculated as 4.53 μM in a wide linear range of 0–900 μM. The linear fitting of Stern‐Volmer equation gives KSV=2.46×103 M−1 and Kq=4.96×106 M−1 S−1, suggesting Eu‐NDBC sensing AA is a dynamic fluorescence quenching process. Nine control amino acids can't affect Eu‐NDBC sensing AA and the emission intensity stay stable in five fluorescence quenching‐recovery cycles. The returned CAA closed to the set CAA and the recoveries around 100 % support the accurate AA detection by Eu‐NDBC in human serum.
